Tips for wearing a mascot costume

We may make you the perfect mascot costume, but it’s up to you to wear it and make it work for  you! To help you get the best from your mascot costume please have a look at the following quick tips to help bring your character to life!

  1. Always have a chaperone with you when wearing the mascot. Your vision is restricted so it is easier to trip, bump or fall over, and it is easy to get yourself into danger!
  2. Agree hand signals with your chaperone in advance. e.g. getting tired, thirsty, too hot, need toilet etc.
  3. Don't disclose who is wearing the costume. Pretend the character is real and everyone will enjoy it more.
  4. NEVER remove any part of the costume in Public. Especially the head, it's a huge disappointment for children & adults alike and makes it forever unbelievable.
  5. Stand up straight and proud! Don’t slouch in your costume because it can make you look sad and miserable!
  6. Try and lift your legs up high when you walk - don't drag your feet!
  7. Smile and be happy inside the costume! It may seem silly but it really will show on the outside!
  8. Make slower and more exaggerated movements than normal.
  9. Avoid swimming pools or any deep water (just in case you get pushed in).
  10. It can sometimes scare children if you make sudden or fast movements, so try not to move too fast around them.
  11. Remove the head and have a regular break out of public view. It’s best to take a 5-minute break every 20 minutes to ensure you don’t overheat or become dehydrated.
  12. Store your mascot out of view of the public – keep the magic alive!
